Data from the Langepan Correlated Curve Trend, or CCT, trial planted in 1952 still forms the basis of many stand density management decisions made today. The 62 hectares, 51 plot spacing experiment saw thousands of Eucalyptus grandis being planted at differing densities and while only one block remains standing today, it is still an impressive monument to the early years of silvicultural science. The biggest trees reached breast heigh of over 140cm and heights over 60m. The importance of such trials should not be understated, with one eminent forest scientist from an IUFRO touring party proclaiming Langepan CCT as one of his top five experimental sites in the world.
